Show Your Support
While financial support is needed, in addition
many people would like to contribute their time to encourage our country's
rescue workers and show unity in America. Here are some ideas to show
your support.
Kids
Visit the American Liberty Partnership's How
Kids Can Help page for some suggestions on how children can show their
support
Volunteer
Join one of the organizations helping our country at this time. For information
about volunteering, visit the websites listed under "Donations"
or call an organization that is working locally within your community.
In addition to the groups listed to the right, consider volunteering with
the homeless, hungry, children, or elderly in your own community or through
your religious organization.
Bake
Make some cookies or some other treat to take to your local rescue workers.
After delivering some cookies to her local firefighters, one lady wrote:
I'm thinking maybe I will continue giving brownies
and cookies to all of the local stations once a week at least--hopefully
for a long time to come. I say that, but I'm so lazy--but they definately
deserve it--not just when there is a tragedy that demonstrates how brave
and willing to sacrifice everything they are--but every day. ~ Carol
Fly a Flag
Another web developer, Colleen, suggested these ways to help.
Fly your US flag for the next 30 days. To signal half staff
on a house-type flag, add black streaming ribbons tied at
the top. See your local VFW chapter ( Veterans of Foreign
Wars http://www.vfw.org/ ) for more flag etiquette. If you
have an older neighbor, now's the time to make them feel good
and ask them what they know. If you don't have one, find the
best GIF and print some out (see the VFW for these, too) If
you can't find one because your local stores are out: If you
have kids, find a coloring book and let them at it. Hang these
in the windows and around the house, car, wherever.
Wear red, white and blue.
Tie red white and blue ribbons on your trees in the yard
or on your car. 5. If you can't give blood now, do so in the
coming weeks. Blood is the gift of life and is ALWAYS needed.
Pull out that checkbook and send a check to one of the following
groups: Red Cross Salvation Army September 11 Fund (created
by United Way and another org)
Email your political representatives in DC. They can use
some support, too.
Most
of all, no matter what religion you are, pray for peace, which is always
in short supply. We can use it EVERYWHERE.
